‘STANDING ON THE SIDE OF LOVE’ , a community organized peace rally will be held at the Wheeling Park Amphitheater on Saturday April 10 from 4 – 7pm. The Ohio Valley community is invited to bring their picnic food and drink and join in a day of community unity. The event is sponsored by members of several organizations and concerned citizens that want to send a message of peace, tolerance and harmony to counter events planned by Wesboro Baptist Church taking place at various Wheeling locations. “Our rally places the emphasis not so much on what we stand against but rather what we stand FOR in our community” says Lee Cunningham, member of the community organizing committee.The day will feature music and messages of peace and understanding of all people, religions and cultures. Local bands are volunteering their time to this important event and include;Manchester Hazard, Hope Change and Progress, Dennis Moreau, Uncle Eddie & RobinThe Primatives, Brenda Jean, Ramblin Ron, and The Other TribeVolunteers from many local organizations including; MOSAIC, YWCA Racial Justice, Unitarian Church, NAACP, Temple Shalom, Wheeling Human Rights Commission, Ohio Valley Peace, West Liberty and WJU students and the WV Hate Crimes Task Force planned and will staff the event. The group also plans to accept donations for families of the recent mine disaster.
